Migraine’s – Do you feel the Pain!!!!!

Writer: urbansoulholistictherapyurbansoulholistictherapy

How many of us have suffered from migraine’s in our adolescence or more now we are adults. I have been a sufferer from Migraine for many years now, not knowing what to try and what to use to help with these episodes. I have looked at oral medication and other medication that can be used but never felt that this was the direction that I want to go down. Therefore I now try many holistic therapies to support my own well-being.

First, let me explain, for those who don’t know what a migraine is, A migraine is usually a moderate or severe headache felt as a throbbing pain on 1 side of the individual's head. For me, it is usually over my left eye and the only way that I can usually get rid of this is by sleeping it off in a dark room. We have all heard this saying when someone says, “I think I have a migraine”.

Symptoms

Some of the symptoms of a migraine can include sickness, being sick, increased sensitivity to light or sound. It is like you have become Hypersensitive to everything and you don’t know what to do.

Migraine is a common health condition in everyday life affecting 1 in every 5 women and 1 in every 15 men.

There are different types of migraines, and these can be described as

· Migraine with aura – where there are warning signs that this is going to happen

· Migraine without aura – without warning signs

· Migraine aura without headache, known as a silent migraine

There are many things that can be known to trigger a migraine and there can be broken down into the following sections

Hormonal Imbalance

· Low oestrogen levels

· Hormonal fluctuations

· Some women during their period cycle may find that they suffer from migraine’s in the lead up to this time.

Poor Sleep

· Sleep deprivation

· Oversleeping

Stress

· Physical

· Mental

· Emotional

· Any other forms of stress

· Foods that contain MSG, is short for monosodium glutamate and is a common food additive that can cause or has been known to trigger an onset of migraine symptoms.

· Caffeine

· Aspartame

· Alcohol

Ways that Migraines can be treated

Through over the counter medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, triptans – medication that can help reverse the changes in the brain and anti-emetics- also known as anti-sickness tablets.

There are also other methods holistically that can support this such as reflexology and acupuncture. Both know to reduce the symptoms and acts that migraine suffers have.

Another new treatment that I have just been trained in called Gentle Release Therapy is also another treatment that can be effective, it allows your body and mind to release tension and stress that you may not know you are carrying and thus allowing you to try and release this and let it go. Gentle Release Therapy draws on the fundamentals of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Working on the abdominal release points and the cranial release points would help to aid with relaxation and reduce the amount of stress someone was suffering with and potentially support them to have fewer migraine episodes. If the person suffering was having hormonal imbalances you could also work on the endocrine system to support them with trying to gain further balance here.

Why not give it a try and aid your relaxation and reduce the risk of migraine attacks. If you need any further information, then please do connect with me and we can discuss what would support you best.
